It all started with a simple idea and a desire to have some fun.

Steps Games was founded in November 2021 by Igor and Alex. The idea for STEPS came to us while we were working at a ski rental shop. Before that, we had barely played board games and were never particularly interested in them. We simply wanted to create something fun to play using whatever we had around us: some small wooden dividers from a cabinet and a small square piece of chipboard left over from a display stand, which became our very first playing platform.

We built our first working prototype, and on February 1, 2022, we introduced STEPS to our friends for the very first time. That day, we held the first-ever STEPS championship, complete with a real trophy and medals. By the end of the presentation, we had also sold out our entire first batch of games.

The game gradually became more challenging as we did. At first, we simply threw the STEPS onto the platform. But pretty quickly, that felt too easy. So we added a rule: the final STEP had to be thrown with a flip. That soon wasn't enough either. We started throwing every STEP with a flip, and the final one with a double flip.

And, as you can probably guess, that still wasn't enough for us.

Eventually, we reached the point where every throw had to be made with a flip, and the final STEP had to be thrown in a spectacular way or from a distance of around half a meter, sometimes even more.

That's when the real excitement began. The same excitement you may have already seen in some of our videos.

By that point, we already understood that STEPS had much more potential than just one game. We started experimenting with different geometric shapes: the triangle, square, pentagon, hexagon, and circle.

And these weren't just different shapes for the sake of variety. Geometry became part of the game mechanics itself.

According to the rules of STEPS, players cannot move to their opponent's side of the table to make a throw. You can reach your hand over, but you can't move to the other side. So we took a round table and divided it into sectors using different geometric shapes, creating a playing area for each player.

Triangle: 3 players.

Square: 4 players.

Pentagon: 5 players.

Hexagon: 6 players.

This is how we created different versions of STEPS for different numbers of players. These shapes became the foundation of our first sets, which we later brought to Kickstarter, and today they can be seen in the Steps Games logo.

In the fall of 2022, we registered Steps Games LLC and launched our first Kickstarter campaign. We continued developing the game, building our community, making STEPS by hand, and sharing everything along the way on social media. Maybe that's where you first discovered STEPS, and maybe that's how you ended up here on our website today.

In 2024, we founded Steps Games Inc. and began manufacturing some versions of STEPS in China. Today, we are an independent indie game publisher focused on bringing STEPS to players around the world.

But the reason we make STEPS is still the same.

We want people to experience the same emotions and enjoyment that we still feel every time we play. The satisfaction of a perfect throw. The excitement when your opponent has to pick up the STEPS that fell off the platform. And that moment when the structure somehow keeps standing and it feels like physics has simply stopped working.

Our mission is to turn STEPS into a worldwide sport and discover new dexterity and strategy champions around the world.
